Who is Damon of Basrat...?

A lovely fellow author was kind enough to interview me (via Damon's character) and I wanted to share that interview with you, gathering your general thoughts and impressions.

The author who was kind enough to reach out to me was Mary Woldering, author of the Children of Stone series. http://a.co/90POP9a

Here is the interview with Damon of Basrat. Enjoy. :)

1. Go ahead and introduce yourself.

"I go by many names: Damon of Basrat, The Dark Knight of Magic, Maker and Destroyer of Worlds, God of Eden, and Author of Damnation to name a few. I’ll let you pick the one you like."

2.Tell us where and when were you born.

“I remember a farm as a child. South of the Aegen Plateau on Kaleion.”

3. How would you describe yourself?

“You’re a Terran, so I’ll put this in terms you can understand… Physically, I’m: 6’4”; 210; shoulder-length, straight, black hair; charcoal-blue eyes (though some say they are black). If you want to know me beyond the physical, you’ll have to prove your worth before we go there.”

4. Tell us about where you grew up.

“I have little memory of my childhood except the father I killed on a farm I barely remember. Didn’t I answer this question already?!”

5. How old are you?

“I have begun my tenth century.”

6. Did you have a happy childhood?

“Before my mother was killed… Yes.”

7. Past/ present relationships? How did they affect you?

*Frowns, twisting in his chair… “Respect what I’m about to share with you or you’ll cease to exist. First ‘relationship’—if you want to call it that—was a dark elf by the name of Evanyil. She’s…” Damon smiles as the memories churn inwardly upon themselves, “…unique!” Another deep breath as he flexes his recollection, “Some say she’s wicked. Most say she’s insane. I say she’s just…special—an acquired taste you could say.”

Another deep breath as a crestfallen mood falls over him like an infected blanket only pierced by rays of Dallia’s soul, “Dallia was the One for me. For a while, I was more, and only so because of her. Now she is gone and only I remain. Many die around me. My circles of operation are fraught with peril. Many more will die not because I killed them but because I exist.”

“More recently,” he pauses, smiling again broadly but only for the briefest of moments as reality sets in, “Mira…” Exhaling deeply in thought, he continues, “What can I say? She’s a mouthy Texan, brilliant, completely indomitable, and deserving of so much more.” A solitary tear bleeds out of his left eye, “We’re done with this question.”

8. What do you value above all else in life?

“Do what you say, when you say, how you say. If you can’t be trusted to do that, you don’t deserve to live.”

9. What are you obsessed with?

“For the longest while, I was obsessed with knowledge, power, money, and influence. Then I became obsessed with making right the wrongs done upon Dallia,” he hints expecting you to do the rest of the work to understand him, “Now, I’m obsessed with unmaking my greatest mistake.”

10.How do your beliefs make life better for yourself and the people you care about?

“Next question,” he shifts again in his chair, leaning the tip of the Staff of the Invoker toward you, causing its terrifying hemispherical aura to engulf you along with him as if to drive home a point not entirely opaque.

11. Biggest fear?

“That I will succeed.”

12. What line will you never cross?

“I won’t break my promises so don’t ask me to give them.”

13. What is the best thing that ever happened to you? The worst?

“Dallia,” he paused, thinking upon elaborating, then rest back into the chair, letting the Staff of the Invoker fall back with him.

14. Most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?

“Next question.”

15. Biggest secret?

“Ooh. Well, now you’ve piqued my interest.” He flourishes, leaning forward, looking directly into your eyes, making you wish you hadn’t asked that question, “Even I don’t fully know the answer to this, but I’ll leave you to ponder… Where did the hate originate? When is the hope? Who is the vengeance I seek? What is the wrong that must be undone? Why must I exist?”
